Danette (DANI) Hurley

I joined the Air Force in 1980 and served for 6 years. I wasted all of my 20's and half of my 30's drinking and partying...I achieved sobriety on Augut 27th 1994! The thing I am MOST proud of and has humbled me the most is my sobriety.
I have completed many long distance bike rides for charity. The longest being a 7 day ride across Texas, camping at night and riding 100 plus miles each day. 4 years ago I fulfilled an old childhood dream and joined the Houston Roller Derby! I am Captain of the Burlesque Brawlers, one of 4 home teams. I also skate with our all star travel team, the HaRD Knocks. We've traveled across the U.S. competing in tournaments. My alter ego is Starr Doom #411. About 12 years ago I made a list of things to do before I die (or die trying to do!) and every year I mark at least one thing off the list.n So far I have managed to remain 6 feet above ground!
I recently took Trapeze classes in Austin, Texas and it was one on the most heart racing experiences I have had while fully conscious! No I will not be performing at the Circus anytime soon!
My life is more than I ever hoped for and it keeps getting better! I am deeply grateful on a daily basis and try not to take anything for granted.

OK I have some pretty good memories of HS and my childhood in general. Going to school with the people I grew up with and the neighborhood I lived in is something I cherish today!
I cannot hear a Steve Miller song without thinking of HS and riding in Brenda's Dodge Dart down the dirt roads drinking beer along with other assorted illegal things! The music from our time was a mix of Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, Bob Seger, Heart, Elton John, Styx and the Eagles! WOW! and oh yeah...Paul McCartney and Wings!
I remember football games and the feel of the fall air and going to Pizza Hut after wards. I never felt part of one particular group but sort of like I didn't know where I fit in...or how to fit in...
Mostly I have great memories of HS and the people. It was the end of a great era for sure!
Now I have to go put on my Bob Seger CD!
